Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court in Abuja has dismissed a fresh bail application filed by detained alleged terrorists’ negotiator, Tukur Mohammed Mamu.
Delivering his ruling on Wednesday, Justice Umar acknowledged Mamu’s complaints about his deteriorating health but ruled that he should remain in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS).
The judge instead ordered the DSS to take Mamu to an appropriate medical facility for treatment, adding that his defence team should choose a hospital acceptable to the defendant.
Justice Umar noted that the prosecution had demonstrated diligence in pursuing the case, eliminating one of the major grounds for bail.
“Since the prosecution has been diligent in this case, the application for bail cannot be granted,” the judge said.
He further directed the DSS to allow Mamu access to his family members while in detention.
