Court Sets November 20 Judgment in Kanu Trial

Nnamdi Kanu

The High Court in Abuja has scheduled November 20 for the ruling on the terrorism charges against Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra.

Justice James Omotosho set this date while addressing the case after Kanu did not present his defence, having used up the six days allocated by the court to present his case.

The judge said that, since Kanu did not take advantage of the opportunity to defend himself, he cannot argue that his constitutional right to a fair hearing was violated.

In a related development, Kanu filed a motion on Friday disputing his trial, arguing that terrorism is no longer considered a crime in Nigeria. He claimed that the previous Terrorism Prevention and Prohibition Act had been repealed, rendering the charges against him invalid.

Kanu insisted that there is no case against him and requested that the court dismiss the charges so he can be released.
