Court Suspends Fubara Impeachment Suit Indefinitely

Justice Florence Fiberesima of the High Court in Port Harcourt has indefinitely adjourned the suit filed by Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara and Deputy Governor Ngozi Nma-Odu challenging impeachment proceedings initiated by Speaker Martin Amaewhule, 26 other House members, and the Clerk.

In ruling on the application, Fiberesima adjourned sine die after two separate appeals were filed, a move she said will allow the Appeal Court to first determine the case.

Previously, the court issued an interim injunction against Amaewhule and 32 others, including the Clerk and the Chief Judge, barring them from sending impeachment-related documents to the Chief Judge or initiating a panel to probe alleged misconduct.

The injunction also barred the Chief Judge, Justice Simeon Chibuzor Amadi, from acting on any impeachment resolutions or related documents from defendants 1 through 27 to form a panel to investigate the governor and deputy for seven days.
