Terence Crawford has been stripped of his WBC super middleweight title due to a financial issue, paving the way for a matchup between Britain’s Hamzah Sheeraz and France’s Christian Mbilli for the now vacant world championship.
Crawford stunned Mexican star Saul “Canelo” Alvarez in September, achieving the remarkable feat of being the first fighter to secure undisputed titles across three different weight classes.
However, the WBC has stated that the American has failed to pay his sanctioning fees from that victory, as well as from his previous bout in 2024 against Israil Madrimov.

“The WBC sent multiple communications to champion Crawford, his manager, and his legal counsel,” the organisation said in a statement on Wednesday.
“Very unfortunately, the WBC did not receive an acknowledgement of receipt nor any response to any of those communications.
“The WBC had no choice but to act, considering champion Crawford had received ample notification and multiple opportunities to address and resolve the situation.”
At 38 years old, Crawford holds titles in five weight divisions and maintains an undefeated record of 42-0 with 31 knockouts.
