Dangote Cement Plc has officially launched its new cement plant in Attingué, located about 30 kilometres from Abidjan, Ivory Coast, marking another milestone in the company’s continental expansion drive.
According to a statement released on Sunday, the official announcement was made on Wednesday by Serge Gbotta, the Managing Director of Dangote Cement, Ivory Coast, during a press event at Novotel Abidjan-Marcory.
The new factory, which spans 50 hectares, boasts a production capacity of 3 million tonnes of cement per year, making it one of Dangote’s largest plants outside Nigeria.
The project, valued at approximately ₣100 billion CFA, aligns with Aliko Dangote’s vision of promoting industrial self-sufficiency across Africa through local production and value addition.
“This strategic project embodies Aliko Dangote’s vision of building a self-sufficient Africa that is less dependent on imports and capable of transforming its resources into world-class finished products,” the company said in a statement.
With the commissioning of the Attingué facility, Ivory Coast becomes the 11th African country to host a Dangote Cement production plant. The Dangote Group now has a total installed capacity of 55 million tonnes per year across the continent.
The new plant is expected to support national infrastructure projects and meet the growing demand for building materials driven by urbanisation and construction expansion in Ivory Coast.
Beyond industrial impact, the facility is projected to create over 1,000 direct and indirect jobs, offering significant employment opportunities for young people and strengthening local small and medium enterprises, including transporters, suppliers, artisans, and retailers.
Speaking at the launch, Serge Gbotta, CEO of Dangote Cement Ivory Coast, reaffirmed the company’s commitment to local empowerment and sustainable development.
“Our ambition is clear: to offer Ivorians internationally-standard cement, produced locally, at a competitive price. The Attingué plant is not just an industrial unit; it is a symbol of confidence in the future of Ivory Coast and a commitment to sustainable development alongside local communities,” he said.
The new plant further consolidates Dangote Group’s position as Africa’s leading cement producer, advancing regional economic integration and industrial growth.
