Delta State Commissioner of Police (CP), Aina Adesola, visited Ozoro, in the Isoko North Local Government Area (LGA) of the state, in the company of Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, and other senior officers.
The Delta CP’s visit followed a recent festival in the state where women and girls were reportedly molested. Viral videos that surfaced on Friday showed disturbing scenes of alleged sexual assault involving several women during a local festival, which caused outrage across social media.
Nigerians appealed to security agencies to bring the perpetrators to book. News Central had reported that a community head and four other suspects were arrested for the alleged sexual assault of young women during the festival, and Ozoro leaders rejected allegations of rape linked to the festival.

In a statement shared on Sunday, the Delta State Police Command spokesperson, Bright Edafe, disclosed that the CP visited the community alongside other senior officers on a fact-finding and confidence-building mission.

“The Commissioner of Police noted that the visit was prompted by the troubling incident and stressed that the Inspector-General of Police is deeply concerned. He described the development as an embarrassment to the LGA, the State, and the country and assured that the Command will not relent until all those involved are arrested and prosecuted,” said Edafe.
“He further assured residents, particularly students, that proactive measures are being strengthened to prevent a recurrence across the State.”
The Chairman of Isoko North LGA, Godwin Ogorugba, who was also present, described the incident as unfortunate. Edafe added that Ogorugba clarified that there is no such thing as a “rape festival” in Ozoro, but a cultural event that was reportedly hijacked by miscreants.
Edafe also urged members of the public to provide credible information to aid ongoing investigations.
