Deputy Governor, Umar Namadi Wins Jigawa Governorship Election

Umar Namadi, the incumbent deputy governor of Jigawa State, has been named the winner of the state governorship election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) stated on Sunday that Namadi received 618,449 votes in 26 of the state’s 27 Local Government Areas (LGAs).

Mustapha Lamido of the People Democratic Party (PDP), who finished second with 368,726 votes, was defeated by Namadi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) nominee.

Aminu Ibrahim, the candidate of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), finished third with 37,156 ballots.

“I, Prof. Umar Zaiyan, hereby certify that Umar Namadi of the APC has satisfied the requirements of the law and is declared the winner of the Jigawa governorship election.” INEC’s returning officer said.

The state has 2,351,298 registered voters, with 1,073,540 of them accredited to vote in the governorship race. The total number of votes submitted was 1,052,793, with 20,226 of them being rejected and 1,032.567 valid votes.
