Former world number one, Novak Djokovic, announced his withdrawal from this week’s ATP Cincinnati Masters on Monday, coinciding with the anniversary of his Olympic gold medal win in Paris.
The withdrawal means that the 38-year-old Serbian will not have competed in any matches between his semi-final defeat at Wimbledon against Jannik Sinner and the start of the US Open in three weeks.
World number one Sinner, alongside Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, opted to skip the ATP Toronto Masters to focus on recovery after Wimbledon, and he has been in Cincinnati since the weekend.
Sinner and his team shared a selfie from a golf course on social media on Monday, just one day after their initial practice session for the pre-US Open event.
Djokovic, who has claimed 24 Grand Slam singles titles, made his Cincinnati debut in 2005 and secured his most recent title there in 2023 after falling short in five previous finals.
