The primary land crossing between the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) and Burundi reopened on Monday morning after a two-month closure.
Officials from both nations confirmed that the Kavimvira border post resumed operations, restoring a critical trade route that had been shut down in December.
The closure was initially prompted by security concerns following an offensive by the M23, a rebel group that the DRC alleges is backed by Rwanda.

The reopening is expected to provide much-needed economic relief to the region, as the post serves as a vital lifeline for the movement of goods and people between the two neighbours.
