Authorities in Nigeria have confirmed that the driver involved in a fatal collision involving British boxer Anthony Joshua has been taken into police custody.
The move follows the driver’s discharge from the hospital on Thursday.
Oluseyi Babaseyi, a spokesperson for the Ogun State police, stated that the individual is being held as part of an ongoing investigation into the Monday incident on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
The accident occurred when a Lexus SUV, carrying Joshua and his associates, struck a stationary truck.
While the boxer and the driver escaped with minor injuries, two of Joshua’s companions, Latif Ayodele and Sina Ghami, were tragically pronounced dead at the scene.

Preliminary reports from the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) suggest that excessive speed and a tyre blowout were significant factors in the crash.
While the police maintain that the investigation remains “discreet” regarding potential prosecution, the aftermath has seen the repatriation of the victims’ remains to the United Kingdom.
Before their departure, Joshua and his mother visited a funeral home to pay their respects to his late friends.
Although the bodies have reportedly been returned to the UK, the current whereabouts of the former heavyweight champion have not been officially confirmed.
