The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Abuja Zonal Directorate, has arraigned the Commandant of the Nigeria Peace Corps, Dickson Akon, and the Corps’ Director of Finance, Omolola Aminat Ahmed, over the alleged criminal misappropriation of ₦60 million belonging to the organisation.
The commission disclosed this in a statement issued on Friday, December 12.
It said Akon and Ahmed appeared before Justice H.B. Yusuf of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) High Court, Abuja, on Thursday, December 11, where they faced a two-count charge of conspiracy and dishonestly converting public funds for personal use.
Charge one states that Akon and Ahmed, in 2024 in Abuja, agreed to commit an illegal act—criminal misappropriation—an offence punishable under Section 96 of the Penal Code laws of the FCT.
Charge two alleges that both defendants, in the same year and location, dishonestly converted ₦46,000,000 out of the ₦60,000,000 allocated for a contract to supply official badges.

According to the EFCC, the defendants conspired to divert funds earmarked for the procurement of the badges, converting ₦46 million for their personal use.
Both defendants pleaded not guilty. Following their pleas, prosecuting counsel Khalid Sanusi requested a date for the commencement of the trial.
Justice Yusuf adjourned the case to 25 February 2026 and granted each defendant bail set at ₦5 million. Each must provide one surety of reputable character who resides in Abuja.
The ICIR reports that this development adds to a growing list of high-profile financial misconduct enquiries in Nigeria.
The EFCC recently seized the international passport of former Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, as part of his ongoing probe.
Malami, who was questioned for hours and released around 1 am on November 28, must report to the EFCC headquarters daily for one month to ensure he does not obstruct the investigation.
He faces questions regarding the management of an alleged $490 million recovery linked to the late Head of State, Sani Abacha.
Similarly, Fred Chukwuelobe, media aide to former Minister of Labour and Employment Chris Ngige, confirmed that the ex-Anambra State governor was also detained by the EFCC, making him the second minister from the Muhammadu Buhari administration to face interrogation by the anti-graft agency in recent weeks.
