Egypt and Ghana played out a thrilling 2-2 draw in their Africa Cup of Nations clash, with Mohamed Kudus scoring a brace for Ghana and Omar Marmoush and Mostafa Mohamed netting for Egypt. The match saw concerns for Egypt as Mohamed Salah limped off just before halftime.
In a Group B encounter at Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny, the game came to life on the brink of halftime. Just 53 seconds after Salah left the field with a suspected hamstring issue, Egypt fell behind to Mohamed Kudus’ stunning opener.
The second half turned into a frenetic period with three goals in five minutes and 10 seconds. Omar Marmoush equalized in the 69th minute, but Kudus quickly restored Ghana’s lead. However, Mostafa Mohamed found the net three minutes later to level the score again. Egypt had a stroke of luck when Iddrisu Baba missed a golden opportunity to score in stoppage time.
Salah’s injury occurred in an innocuous moment as he signaled the need to go off, holding his left hamstring. Kudus then showcased his skill, scoring a wonderful left-footed finish from the edge of the box.
The chaotic five-minute spell continued, with Marmoush rounding the Ghanaian goalkeeper to equalise. Kudus scored his second with a low effort that fooled Egypt’s goalkeeper. Trezeguet then set up Mostafa Mohamed for a simple finish to make it 2-2.
Despite late chances, including a header from Iddrisu Baba that went wide, the match ended in a draw. Ghana now has one point, while Egypt has two as they head into their final Group A matches.
