Egypt Delivers Mobile Shelters to Gaza After Mediation Efforts

Egypt has dispatched the first shipment of mobile homes to Gaza under the ongoing ceasefire deal with Israel, local media reported on Thursday.

According to Egyptian television channel Al-Qahera News, five trucks carrying 15 mobile homes and a bulldozer crossed the Rafah border into the Kerem Shalom terminal, where they awaited final clearance for entry into Gaza. Footage aired by the channel showed the convoy moving from the Rafah crossing towards Kerem Shalom.

For weeks, Israel had refused to allow mobile homes into Gaza, despite the ceasefire agreement, leaving displaced Palestinians exposed to harsh winter conditions. It was only after mediation efforts that Israel agreed to let the shelters in.

The ceasefire and prisoner exchange deal, implemented last month, has temporarily halted Israel’s devastating military campaign, which has killed nearly 48,300 Palestinians, mostly women and children, and left much of the enclave in ruins.
