Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi has stated that his country opposes any Israeli efforts to move Palestinians out of Gaza.

Speaking on Saturday at Police Day in Cairo, he warned that such actions could trigger a massive refugee crisis worldwide.

Sissi emphasised the need to halt “systematic practices against the Palestinian people” and rejected any attempts to displace them from their homeland.

He cautioned that moving about 2.5 million Palestinians from Gaza could lead to hundreds of thousands fleeing toward Europe and other Western countries, creating serious security, economic, and social repercussions.

“I emphasise the necessity of halting the systematic practices against the Palestinian people in their occupied land and rejecting any attempts or efforts to displace them from their homeland,” he said.

“I warn that the exodus of approximately two and a half million Palestinians from the Gaza Strip, and what this implies in terms of the liquidation of the Palestinian cause, will lead to the displacement of hundreds of thousands towards Europe and Western countries, with grave security, economic, and social repercussions that no one can bear.”

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas conflict in October 2023, Egypt has maintained that forcing Palestinians out of Gaza would undermine their aspirations for statehood.

Earlier this week in Davos, Sissi had said that Palestinian statehood is crucial for regional stability and forms the basis  for achieving a just and comprehensive peace.

On Saturday, he also stressed that Egypt would not tolerate any attempts to divide the countries of the region or seize parts of their territories, describing such moves as a red line that directly threatens Egyptian national security.

Sissi further called for implementing the second phase of the Gaza ceasefire, supporting the reconstruction of the enclave.

Egypt has agreed to participate in US President Donald Trump’s Board of Peace to help oversee the process.
