Troops involved in Operation Hadin Kai have captured eight individuals for their suspected roles in a recent suicide bombing at a mosque in Borno.

On December 24, 2025, a suicide bomber set off an improvised explosive device (IED) within a mosque at Gamborun Market in Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state. The blast resulted in the deaths of at least five worshippers and left 35 others injured.

“A search of the suspects’ residence led to the recovery of cash, mobile phones, identification documents, ATM cards, jewellery, and other personal effects, which are currently undergoing forensic analysis to support ongoing investigations,” he said.

Uba said that the eight individuals were taken into custody during an operation conducted in the Yan Lemo area of Mubi South LGA in Adamawa state in the early hours of Monday.

Previously, the army had detained two individuals in connection with the incident.

Additionally, the army identified Shariff Umar as the “main coordinator” of a suicide bombing network associated with recent attacks and attempts in the north-east.
