Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) has confirmed power disruption in parts of Lagos State following a fire incident along the Lekki-Epe Expressway.
In a statement on Saturday, the company said the outage was caused by a collision involving a stationary gas tanker, which sparked a fire that damaged key power infrastructure.
It said the blaze affected the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including critical conductors and overhead line equipment, leading to widespread supply disruption.
The statement read, “Please be informed that the current power outage was caused by a fire incident that occurred last night following a vehicle collision with a stationary gas tanker.
“The resulting fire led to significant damage to the Ibeju and Medallion 33kV feeders, including critical conductors and overhead line equipment. This unexpected incident has disrupted the power supply in the affected areas.”
EKEDC said its technical teams were already working to replace damaged components and restore electricity supply as quickly and safely as possible.
The company apologised for the disruption, describing the incident as unforeseen and urging customers to bear with ongoing restoration efforts.
“Our technical team is working diligently to replace the damaged components and restore the power supply as quickly and safely as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience caused by this unforeseen incident and thank you.”
Areas affected include Sangotedo, Majek, Fidiso, Awoyaya, Eputu, Lagasa, Losoro, Kajola, Onisan, and the Medallion Company axis.
The outage follows a separate gas-related explosion in the Ajah area that reportedly claimed lives and destroyed properties, including shops and warehouses.
Residents have been advised to exercise caution as repair works continue and power restoration progresses across the affected feeders.
