The Chairman of the Ekiti State Independent Electoral Commission (EKSIEC), Justice Cornelius Akintayo, has said the commission is fully prepared to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible local government elections in the state.

Speaking on Thursday in Ado Ekiti during a stakeholders’ meeting attended by leaders of political parties, security agencies and key institutions, Akintayo stated that the commission had put all necessary measures in place to strengthen public confidence in the electoral process.

The commission has fixed December 12, 2026, for the election of chairmen and councillors across the state’s local governments and local council development areas, as the tenure of the current officeholders is expected to expire in December.

He also encouraged eligible residents to register and collect their voter cards, disclosing that the commission would start an extensive sensitisation and mobilisation campaigns across the state to boost awareness and participation.

Also speaking at the meeting, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, Joseph Eribo, described local government elections as crucial to effective grassroots governance and assured residents that the police would provide adequate security before, during and after the polls to ensure a peaceful process.

Similarly, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security, Brigadier General Ebenezer Ogundana (retd.), urged residents to actively participate in the elections, noting that Ekiti remained one of the safest states in the country.

He assured that security agencies would work round the clock to maintain peace throughout the election period.
