Heavy security presence and restricted media access were observed at the Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday, as journalists were barred from entering the courtroom to cover the arraignment of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai on corruption charges involving more than N432 billion in state funds.

Armed security operatives surrounded the court premises, vehicular movement in the area was limited and traffic was diverted to other routes to manage the congestion around the complex.

El-Rufai arrived at the court at about 9:20 a.m., dressed in a green babanriga and was escorted into the courtroom.

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) had confirmed earlier that El-Rufai, alongside one Joel Adoga, would be arraigned before the Federal High Court in the Kaduna Judicial Division on Tuesday, March 24, 2026.

The case — marked FHC/KD/73/2026 — according to the Commission, includes charges ranging from conversion and possession of public property to alleged money laundering.

It stated that a separate case was filed at a Kaduna State High Court against El-Rufai and another individual, Amadu Sule (LEDA).
That suit, with charge number KDH/KAD/ICPC/01/26, centres on allegations including abuse of office, fraud, intent to commit fraud, and conferring undue advantage.

Both cases were filed on March 18, 2026, and a date for the State High Court arraignment will be announced in due course.

The ICPC further confirmed that El-Rufai has been properly served, stressing its commitment to due process and strict adherence to the rule of law in prosecuting the cases.
