Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah has launched the state-owned airline, Enugu Air, describing it as a significant advancement for the state and a benchmark for collaboration between the government and the private sector.
The first flight of the state airline took place on Monday, which the governor referred to as a momentous occasion for ‘Ndi Enugu’.
During his speech at the unveiling, Mbah expressed that this milestone was in line with his administration’s goal of transforming Enugu into a top destination for investment, living, and tourism within Nigeria.
“It is an honour to stand before you today, not only as a governor but as a fellow believer in the power of vision,” he said.
Although the launch took place a few weeks after his administration’s second anniversary, Mbah considered it “a suitable gift to Ndi Enugu”.
He emphasised that Enugu Air was more than an airline; it represented a significant move toward establishing the right conditions for businesses and unlocking sectors that previously seemed inaccessible.

According to Mbah, the introduction of Enugu Air also highlighted the potential that can arise from fostering strategic partnerships between the public and private sectors.
At the event, the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, addressed public worries regarding the future of the Enugu airport, confirming that it was not being sold but rather concessioned to private investors.
He commended Governor Peter Mbah for his proactive measures in drawing private investments to the airport, noting that the governor did not allow bureaucratic delays to hinder progress.
