The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Éric Sékou Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles. His appointment was announced following the endorsement of the NFF Executive Committee, based on a recommendation from the NFF Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

    Born on November 11, 1977, in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, Chelle holds Malian citizenship. He was raised in France by his French father and Malian mother, giving him strong ties to both Africa and Europe.
  2. Playing Career
    Chelle played as a central defender and spent most of his professional career in French football, representing clubs like Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais. On the international stage, he earned five caps for Mali between 2004 and 2006.
  3. Coaching Journey
    Transitioning into coaching, Chelle managed clubs such as GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran between 2017 and 2022.
  4. National Team Experience
    In May 2022, Chelle became head coach of the Mali national team. He guided them to the quarter-finals of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), a tournament where Nigeria’s Super Eagles finished as runners-up under Jose Peseiro.

    Chelle’s tenure as Mali’s head coach ended in June 2024 after two years, following a decision by the Malian football body.
