Erik ten Hag Returns to Management with Bayer Leverkusen

Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been confirmed as the new head coach of Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen, the German club announced on Monday.

The Dutch tactician takes over from Xabi Alonso, who guided Leverkusen to a historic domestic double in the 2023–24 season — securing both the Bundesliga title and the German Cup.

Alonso was officially unveiled on Sunday as the new head coach of Real Madrid, where he succeeds veteran manager Carlo Ancelotti.

Ten Hag Urges Patience as Manchester United Struggles Continue

Ten Hag, who departed Manchester United in October 2024, will now step into the role vacated by Alonso. His time at Old Trafford was mixed, yielding both the League Cup and FA Cup trophies, but also marked by inconsistency and underwhelming league performances.

The move to Leverkusen marks Ten Hag’s return to management in European football following his Premier League stint, as he looks to build on the momentum created by his predecessor.
