The European Ryder Cup team secured a commanding 8.5-3.5 lead over the United States at Bethpage Black, making history by becoming the first visiting team to win three opening sessions on foreign soil.
Europe repeated its Friday performance by capturing Saturday’s foursomes with a 3-1 scoreline.
Despite facing intense heckling from the New York crowd, the European pairings showcased superior shot-making and clutch putting.
Spanish star Jon Rahm stayed undefeated, improving his pairs record to 8-0 since 2018. His spectacular 49-foot chip from a bunker to win the 8th hole was a key moment in his 3&2 victory alongside Tyrrell Hatton over Americans Xander Schauffele and Patrick Cantlay.
World number two Rory McIlroy also remained unbeaten, partnering with Tommy Fleetwood to defeat Harris English and Collin Morikawa 3&2.
McIlroy, however, cursed out some hecklers, calling for fans to show respect while players are taking their shots.
Elsewhere, Robert MacIntyre and Viktor Hovland clinched a dramatic 1-up win against the top-ranked American pair of Scottie Scheffler and Russell Henley.
The US team, which fields 12 of the world’s top 23 players, only managed to secure a 4&2 win from Bryson DeChambeau and Cam Young.
Europe needs 14 points total to retain the trophy, while the US requires 14.5 points to reclaim the Cup in Sunday’s singles matches.
