Former Brazil international Oscar dos Santos Emboaba Júnior has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 34 due to a heart-related condition, his club São Paulo confirmed on Saturday.
The attacking midfielder was hospitalised for five days in November after collapsing during a routine medical examination and has not played since.
Doctors later identified a vasovagal syncope, a condition linked to a sudden drop in blood pressure and heart rate, which ultimately led to the decision to end his playing career.

His contract had been set to run until 2027.
In a statement released through the club, Oscar said he was closing a career that had taken him “practically to the four corners of the world,” expressing gratitude for his journey in football.
Oscar previously spent five seasons at Chelsea, where he won two Premier League titles and the Europa League, before moving to Shanghai Port in 2017, where he secured multiple league titles.
He returned to São Paulo in 2025, the club where his professional career began.
At international level, he earned 48 caps for Brazil, winning the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) Confederations Cup and featuring at the 2014 World Cup on home soil.
