On December 23, 2024, an explosive eruption at Sakurajima Volcano was observed from Taremizu City in Kagoshima Prefecture, located in southwestern Japan’s Kyushu region.
The eruption occurred around 7:30 a.m., sending a towering plume of smoke 3,400 metres into the sky from the summit crater.
