Fatal Road Crash Claims Lives of Five Indian Tourists in Kenya

Five tourists of Indian descent lost their lives on Monday in a tragic road accident along the Ol Jororok–Nakuru Road in Kenya. The vehicle they were travelling in lost control, rolled several times, and landed in a ditch, resulting in a deadly crash.

According to initial reports, the bus was carrying 28 tourists, along with three local guides and a driver. The group was en route to the Panari Resort in Nyahururu when the accident occurred near the Gichaka area.

Disturbing footage shared on social media revealed the extent of the damage, with the bus’s roof completely torn off, underscoring the severity of the incident.

Eyewitnesses recounted that the bus had been moving at a steady pace before veering off the road shortly after rain began. It eventually collided with a tree.

Nyandarua County Police Commander Stella Cherono confirmed the tragic loss and said the majority of passengers had been located.
“So far, 25 tourists have been accounted for, including the 5 fatalities. Search is ongoing for the other remaining three,” she said.

Efforts are underway to locate the three missing individuals. Meanwhile, police have launched a formal investigation to determine the cause of the crash.

The accident adds to the concerning road safety statistics in Kenya. According to data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 1,139 people died in road crashes between January and March 2025—a slight drop from 1,166 deaths recorded during the same period last year.

Pedestrians remain the most affected, with 420 deaths, followed by motorcyclists (301), passengers (189), pillion riders (130), drivers (83), and cyclists (16). In total, 5,856 individuals were involved in crashes during the first quarter, with 3,316 sustaining serious injuries and 2,693 suffering minor ones.

In response to the persistent high toll of road accidents, the NTSA continues to advocate for stricter traffic rule enforcement and public awareness campaigns aimed at saving lives on Kenyan roads.
