The announcement of the Kuje Area Council chairmanship result in the Federal Capital Territory has been delayed due to issues affecting collation in two wards, electoral officials have said.

The Supervising Resident Electoral Commissioner for the Kuje poll, Abubakar Dambo, while speaking to The Nation’s News, attributed the delay to incomplete collation in Central and Kabi wards, noting that results from eight of the ten wards had already been finalised.

He explained that the setback was caused by a logistical mix-up involving collation officers, who reportedly went to the wrong location before returning to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC office and heading back to complete the process.

He added that the officials were expected to return from Kabi ward after concluding the exercise.

“We are waiting for the remaining two wards out of ten. The delay is because the collation officers went to the wrong place and had to return to the INEC office before heading back early this morning to complete the collation process.

“I am sure that by now they should be on their way back from Kabi ward,” Dambo said.

Kuje remains the only area council yet to have its result declared, as outcomes from the other five councils have already been announced.

Security presence has been reinforced around the INEC office in Kuje to maintain order, with party agents, journalists, and security personnel gathered at the collation centre awaiting the official declaration by the Returning Officer, Nkiruka Odoh.

Results declared so far show that Joshua Ishaku of the All Progressives Congress won the Bwari chairmanship election with 18,466 votes. In Abuja Municipal Area Council, the incumbent chairman, Christopher Maikalangu of the APC, secured victory with 40,295 votes.

In Gwagwalada, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Mohammed Kasim, emerged winner with 22,165 votes, defeating APC’s Yahaya Shehu, who polled 17,788 votes. Umar Abdullahi Abubakar of the APC also won in Abaji with 15,536 votes, while the PDP candidate garnered 4,547 votes.

Similarly, in Kwali Area Council, the APC candidate, Nuhu Daniel, was declared winner after polling 17,032 votes, ahead of the PDP’s Haruna Pai, who secured 8,575 votes.
