The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a special legal unit to oversee all election disputes arising from the February 21, 2026, Area Council elections held across the Federal Capital Territory.
In a statement on Sunday, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, said that the victories were fewer in number than anticipated but significant, given the background of intimidation, high-powered money politics, and alleged executive interference during the polls.

Ememobong added that reports and video evidence suggested that armed security personnel were used to seize result sheets, intimidate voters, and influence outcomes in some polling units.
“Reports and video evidence abound where armed security personnel were used to cart away result sheets in polling units, intimidate voters, and unduly influence the outcome of the elections.”

To pursue complaints arising from the elections, the PDP announced that its legal team would be led by the party’s National Legal Adviser, Shafi Bara’u Esq.
Party officials urged candidates with legitimate grievances to reach out to the legal team promptly, warning that delays could affect their ability to seek redress.
The statement also mentioned concerns about voter turnout, linking low participation to provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
“The incredible voter apathy in these polls is a direct response to the anti-people Electoral Act 2026, where the people have completely lost faith in the electoral outcomes from elections conducted under this Act.
“These Local Council polls may just be a foreshadowing of the forthcoming general elections in 2027 if changes are not urgently made,” the statement added.
The party further called on the National Assembly and President to take corrective measures to safeguard the credibility and integrity of Nigeria’s democratic process.
The move comes as the party congratulated its candidates who emerged victorious in the polls, particularly in Gwagwalada Area Council, while expressing concerns over alleged irregularities in other councils.
According to results released by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), the All Progressives Congress (APC) won in Abaji, Kwali, AMAC, and Bwari, while the PDP secured only Gwagwalada.
