Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes says he will delay any discussions about his future until after next year’s World Cup.
The 31-year-old midfielder is set to make his 300th appearance for United on Saturday, as the club aims to end a poor run of three consecutive home defeats against Brighton.
Since joining Sporting Lisbon for £47 million in January 2020, Fernandes has missed only 17 matches—just three due to injury or illness.
Despite turning down a massive offer from Al-Hilal last summer and further interest from Saudi and European clubs, speculation about his next move continues.
Sources close to the Portuguese star insist he has no interest in a transfer to Saudi Arabia, with leading European sides showing stronger interest.
His current deal runs until 2027, with an option for another year, and reportedly includes a £56.68 million (€65 million) clause that allows for a move abroad if triggered early. However, Fernandes says he won’t discuss transfers for now.

“I feel good here and still have dreams to achieve,” he said. “I’ve seen talk about me leaving, but I’ve not spoken to anyone. If my agent wants to, it’ll be after the World Cup.”
Fernandes admitted that during Al-Hilal’s pursuit, he consulted United’s hierarchy, coach Ruben Amorim, Cristiano Ronaldo, and his family. Although the offer was enormous, all parties agreed he should stay. Amorim told him, “We need more players to help you, not to replace you.”
Family also played a big part. “My family is very happy here,” Fernandes said. “My children love their school, and my wife reminded me I haven’t achieved all I want at this club yet.”
Fernandes’ dedication remains unquestioned. He was spotted training in the rain at Carrington just hours after United’s first Anfield win since 2016.
“I care about team success more than personal praise,” he noted. “I want trophies and to be remembered for what I did for the club, not just statistics.”
On United’s recruitment, Fernandes stressed the need for strong personalities: “Talent isn’t enough here—you need character to handle the pressure.”
He praised new arrivals Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo for their confidence and attacking drive.
Regarding his dynamic with teammate Kobbie Mainoo, Fernandes said, “Kobbie isn’t competition; he complements me. He’s technically gifted and makes me a better player. We’re different, but we both bring quality to the team.”
