Lewis Hamilton has admitted he is eager to put a disappointing start to life at Ferrari behind him and rediscover the enjoyment that first inspired his Formula One career.
The seven-time world champion made the high-profile switch from Mercedes to Ferrari this season, but the move has yet to deliver results. Now 40, Hamilton sits sixth in the standings without a podium to his name and has struggled to match the frontrunners’ pace.
After a deflating outing in Hungary, where he branded himself “completely useless” and suggested Ferrari should replace him, Hamilton appeared in more positive spirits ahead of this weekend’s Dutch Grand Prix at Zandvoort. A break between races, he said, had helped restore his determination.

“There’s been so much pressure in this first half of the season, it’s not been the most enjoyable,” Hamilton told reporters. “But I think just remembering that we love what we do, that we’re all in this together, and trying to have some fun is important.”
Adapting to Ferrari after 12 years with Mercedes has been far from straightforward. Hamilton acknowledged the challenge of integrating into “the biggest brand in our sport” but stressed there were positives to build on. “There can often be so much noise that you lose sight of what’s really important,” he said. “For me, that’s the fun element. That’s why I got into this sport in the first place. And if you’re not enjoying what you’re doing, then why are you doing it?”
