A fire outbreak in the early hours of New Year’s Day gutted four electronics shops in Ikotun, Lagos State, destroying all goods inside.

The blaze occurred at a commercial complex beside the GUO Transport Company terminal in Ikotun. Household appliances, including television sets, washing machines and power generators, were among the items lost.
A resident said neighbours quickly mobilised to stop the fire from spreading to other parts of the building before emergency services arrived.
According to him, residents made frantic efforts to contain the flames with water until officials of the Lagos State Fire Service reached the scene.
He praised the firefighters for their prompt response, noting that their intervention averted a far bigger disaster.
“Without their timely action, the entire building could have been engulfed, with the fire spreading to nearby structures,” he said.
Authorities have yet to establish the cause of the incident, although the resident suspected an electrical fault. Officials cordoned off the affected area, and no injuries or fatalities were reported.
The incident adds to a spate of recent fire outbreaks in Lagos, including fires at the Great Nigeria Insurance building on Lagos Island and the Arena Market in Oshodi within the past eight days.
