Fire Guts Kano’s Popular Singa Market

Fire broke out on Saturday at the popular Singa Market in Kano State, destroying goods valued at millions of naira.

Eyewitnesses said the blaze began at a large provision store before spreading rapidly to other sections of the market. 

The exact cause of the fire remains unknown.

Confirming the incident, Kano State Fire Service Public Relations Officer Saminu Abdullahi said the agency had mobilised personnel and equipment to contain the inferno.

He stated that the fire broke out this evening in the Gidan Gashash area and that efforts are underway to extinguish it and prevent it from spreading to other parts of the market.

Abdullahi also noted logistical challenges in controlling the fire, explaining, “As you know, lack of access roads within the market, as well as human and vehicular movement around the market area, is affecting the movement of fire service vehicles.”

This latest incident follows another fire that struck Singa Market on Monday, 2 February 2026, which destroyed three large stores and caused losses totalling millions of naira.
