A fire outbreak erupted at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp in ISS, Ngala Local Government Area of Borno State on Friday, razing several shelters and affecting hundreds of displaced families.
The fire, which started at exactly 3:40 PM, destroyed a significant portion of the camp, including a newly rehabilitated block that was fully occupied by IDPs. Although the exact cause of the inferno remains unknown, eyewitnesses said the fire spread rapidly, consuming shelter blocks within minutes.
Unconfirmed reports suggest that over 500 shelters were either directly or indirectly affected by the fire. However, details regarding casualties or the total number of displaced persons impacted are still emerging.
Emergency responders and camp officials are currently assessing the full extent of the damage, while efforts to provide immediate relief and support to the affected individuals are underway.
As of press time, the cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and authorities have not released an official statement.
