Five African TV Shows and Movies You Should Watch This Weekend

BLOOD AND WATER

Blood and water is a South African Netflix Original series. Written by Travis Taute, Dyrne Joshua and Noshipo Dumisa and also directed by the trio. Blood and water’s major actors are; Ama Qamata, Khosi Ngema and Gail Mabalane.

The first season was shot in Cape Town, South Africa. The TV show features award winning rapper, Nasty C, who plays the role of a producer in the show.

The storyline centres around a teenager who sets out to prove whether a private school swimming star is her sister who was abducted at birth

If you’re wondering why you should watch blood and water, I would tell you this for free; because of how good, original, creative and unique the storyline of blood and water is, Netflix has decided to renew the season for a second season.

SUGAR RUSH

Sugar rush is a Nigerian movie with elements of crime, action and comedy in it. Staring Adesua Etomi-Wellington,  Bisola Aiyeola and Bimbo Ademoye as the sugar sisters.. written by Jadesola Osiberu and Bunmi Ajakaiye, and directed by Kayode Kasum.

It tells the story of three sisters who accidentally discover  $800,000 in the house of a corrupt man, they must, however, set things right with the appropriate authorities.

 Sugar rush is relatable, and the characters are a reflection of who we are in a society and the people around us.

KETEKE

Keteke is a Ghanaian movie, written, produced and directed by Peter Sedufia.  The film stars Fred Nii Amugi, Adjetey Anang, Lydia Forson, and. Clemento Suarez.

Keteke tells the story of a struggling couple expecting their first child and the sequence of events that unfold after they miss their train into the city for the delivery. 

Watching Keteke today on Netflix will help you ease boredom and light up your mood.

SERIOUSLY SINGLE 

Just like “blood and water”, “Seriously single” is a South African Netflix original series. Seriously single is written by Lwazi Myusi, and directed by  Katleho Ramaphakela and Rethabile Ramaphakela. The series stars Fuli Mugovhani, Tumi Morake and Bohamg Moeke.

Here is why you should watch Seriously Single; it is a Rom com. 

On one hand one person is trying to embrace her singleness, and on the other hand, one person’s happiness is centred around being in a relationship , hence, craving commitment, and would rather be with her former love.

CHIEF DADDY

Now,  if you love Falz the bad guy, Yoruba parties and the drama it brings.  Then you would totally love “Chief daddy” and hate polygamy, oh wait! Maybe not.

Chief daddy is a 2018 Nigerian comedy-drama film directed by Niyi Akinmolayan, written by Bode Asiyanbi and produced by Mosunmola Abudu and Temidayo Abudu. The actors and actresses of chief daddy are African’s finest. They know their onions and brought their A-game into the movie chief daddy.

A wealthy Patriarch dies all of a sudden, leaving his family confused. As staff, family and friends all want a share of his fortune.
