Nigeria’s Flying Eagles and Morocco played out a goalless draw on Sunday in a Group B fixture at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
In a tightly contested encounter with fairly balanced possession, the Nigerians secured a valuable point, enhancing their chances of progressing to the knockout stage.
Defender Daniel Bamenyi was instrumental in maintaining Nigeria’s clean sheet and was rightfully named Man of the Match for his standout performance at the June 30 Stadium in Cairo, Egypt.
Aliyu Zubairu’s side now have four points from two matches, having earlier edged Tunisia 1-0 in their opening game of the tournament.
Elsewhere in Group B, Tunisia revived their qualification hopes with a commanding 3-1 win over Kenya.
Morocco currently top the group with four points, level with Nigeria but ahead on goal difference. Tunisia sit third, while Kenya remain bottom without a point.
The Flying Eagles’ next fixture is against Kenya on Wednesday. A draw will be enough to secure Nigeria a spot in the knockout rounds, regardless of the outcome in the simultaneous Tunisia vs Morocco match.
