Robert Mueller, the former Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director who led a high-profile investigation into United States President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, has died at the age of 81.
The New York Times reported his death, citing a statement from his family, though details surrounding the location and cause were not disclosed.

Mueller led the FBI for 12 years, taking office shortly before the September 11, 2001, Al-Qaeda attacks on the United States, and later oversaw major expansions of the bureau’s counterterrorism operations.
After leaving the FBI, he was appointed special counsel by the US Department of Justice to investigate possible coordination between Trump’s 2016 campaign and Russia.
AFP reports that US President Donald Trump reacted on his Truth Social platform.
Trump wrote, “Robert Mueller just died. Good, I’m glad he’s dead. He can no longer hurt innocent people!”
Mueller’s investigation, conducted between 2017 and 2019, was one of the most politically sensitive inquiries in recent US history.
