The Majority Leader in the Edo House of Assembly, Donald Okugbe (PDP – Akoko-Edo II), and three other legislators switched their allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday.
The other legislators include Bright Iyamu (PDP – Orhionmwon South II), Richard Edosa (PDP – Oredo West), and Sunday Ojezele (LP – Esan South East).
With this defection, the APC now comprises 13 members in the House, while the PDP has 11.
The lawmakers were welcomed at the APC Secretariat in Benin by Acting State Chairman Jarret Tenebe, who noted that their decision stemmed from significant rifts and ongoing issues within their previous parties.
Speaking for the group, Edosa referred to this decision as a “defining moment.”
He expressed their belief in the vision of Governor Monday Okpebholo and their dedication to collaborating with him to promote the state’s development.
Tenebe, in welcoming them to the party, described their choice to join the APC as a courageous step towards a brighter future for Edo State. He assured them they would have the same rights and benefits as all other members.
The APC chairman commended their bravery and remarked that their defection bolstered the party’s commitment to enhancing the state’s governance, security, and economic progress.
The event concluded with a symbolic presentation of APC brooms to the defecting lawmakers, signifying their formal induction into the ruling party.
