Four members of the House of Representatives from Rivers State have defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The lawmakers are Manuchim Umezuruike, who represents Port Harcourt I Federal Constituency; Boniface Emerengwa of Ikwerre/Emuoha; Awake-Inombek Abiante of Andoni/Opobo; and Boma Goodhead of Asari-Toru Federal Constituency.
The defectors are said to be loyal to Rivers State Governor Siminalayi, who also moved from the PDP to the APC last week.
Earlier, Fubara explained that his decision to leave the PDP stemmed from his determination to support President Bola Tinubu, adding that his political survival depended on the President’s support.
He stated that backing the President required full political alignment rather than indirect support, stressing that he and his supporters had therefore resolved to formally join the APC.
The governor’s defection came shortly after the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Martin Amaewhule, and 17 other lawmakers also left the PDP for the APC on December 5.
The state legislators cited the prolonged internal crisis within the PDP as the reason for their decision to defect.
