France’s anti-terrorism prosecutor has officially opened an investigation into a thwarted bomb attack targeting a Bank of America branch in central Paris.
On Saturday, authorities confirmed that a suspect is in police custody after being apprehended while attempting to ignite a five-litre incendiary device in front of the building.
The incident, which occurred in the early morning hours in the city’s 8th arrondissement, is being treated as an act of attempted terrorism and criminal conspiracy.
The investigation has been escalated to include the General Directorate for Internal Security (DGSI) and specialised judicial police, reflecting the gravity of the threat.

While no injuries or structural damage were reported, the site of the attempted attack—located near the Champs-Élysées—has been under heightened surveillance following recent digital threats from pro-Iran groups.
These groups had previously issued warnings against American and Israeli financial interests in Europe, labelling the bank a strategic target.
This security breach comes at a time of extreme regional tension, as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East continues to impact international safety protocols.
French authorities are now working to determine if the suspect acted alone or as part of a broader network linked to foreign-backed militias.
As the probe continues, security has been bolstered around several high-profile financial institutions and international corporate offices across the French capital.
