Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has appointed Christopher Green as the new Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, filling a vacancy left after the previous holder, Dagogo Iboroma, SAN, was affected by a Supreme Court judgment, leading to his removal after the emergency rule.
Christopher Green, previously Commissioner for Sports, will also continue to oversee the Sports Ministry until a new commissioner is appointed.
According to a statement by the state ministry of information, the move is part of a minor cabinet reshuffle aimed at ensuring continuity in governance and strengthening key ministries in Rivers State, as approved at the last State Executive Council meeting for the year 2025.

The cabinet reshuffle is taking place against the backdrop of intensified political manoeuvring in the state, sparked by recent remarks from the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory and former Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who said full-scale political activities would return to the state in January 2026.
Wike, who has toured several local government areas to engage with his political base, criticised Governor Siminalayi Fubara, arguing that openly backing President Bola Tinubu would not automatically secure a second-term ticket. He also accused the governor of reneging on political agreements, maintaining that leaders who fail to honour such commitments cannot be relied upon.
Rivers State has meanwhile been without an Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice since the departure of the immediate past office holder, Mr Dagogo Iboroma, SAN.
Iboroma’s exit followed a Supreme Court ruling that affirmed Mr Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. He was among the State Executive Council members screened by the three lawmakers led by the then factional Speaker, Victor Oko-Jumbo.
At present, Governor Fubara continues to work with eight commissioners who were earlier screened and confirmed by the Amaewhule-led House before the political crisis that plunged the state into turmoil.
