Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dismissed all commissioners and public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment, with immediate effect.

The announcement was made on Wednesday in a statement by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, following a private valedictory session with the cabinet at Government House, Port Harcourt.

The session, which formed part of events marking Nigeria’s 65th Independence Anniversary, saw Governor Fubara express gratitude to his cabinet members for their service and contributions to the growth and development of Rivers State over the past two years.

Governor Fubara emphasised the importance of Nigeria’s independence, calling on citizens to rally behind President Bola Tinubu in the shared quest for a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation.

He reaffirmed his dedication to serving Rivers State with renewed energy, thanked the people for their steadfast support, and extended warm wishes to Nigerians on the occasion of the country’s 65th Independence Anniversary.

The decision comes in the wake of the Supreme Court’s recognition of Martin Amaewhule as the legitimate Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, a ruling that effectively nullified the actions of Victor Oko-Jumbo, who had presided as Speaker and overseen the screening of most commissioners over the past two years.

As a result, fewer than 10 commissioners are expected to remain in office until a new cabinet is constituted.
