The Gabonese government has suspended the country’s senior men’s football team following a disappointing outing at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), where the side failed to secure a single point.

Gabon’s national football team finished bottom of Group F at the tournament in Morocco after losing all three of their matches, a performance that has prompted sweeping administrative and sporting sanctions.

In a decisive move, authorities announced that senior players Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Bruno Ecuele Manga have been barred from future national team selection. The government also confirmed the dissolution of the entire coaching and technical crew, signalling a complete reset of the team’s structure.

Officials said the measures were taken in response to what they described as an unacceptable showing at the continental showpiece, stressing the need for accountability and a renewed commitment to national pride.

Gabon’s campaign at the AFCON ended without a point, marking one of the country’s poorest performances in recent tournament history.
