Ivorian defender Wilfried Singo has joined Turkish champions Galatasaray from Monaco in a deal worth around €30.7 million (£26 million), the club confirmed on Thursday. The move makes the 24-year-old the second most expensive signing in Turkish Super Lig history.
Singo, capped by Ivory Coast at international level, had slipped down the pecking order at Monaco under coach Adi Hütter, who left him on the bench for the opening two matches of the Ligue 1 season. His switch to Istanbul gives Galatasaray further defensive reinforcement as they prepare to defend their domestic crown and challenge in Europe.
The record transfer in Turkey remains Victor Osimhen’s €75 million move earlier this summer, with the Nigerian striker signing permanently for Galatasaray after a successful loan spell from Napoli. The Istanbul giants have also added Leroy Sané, who arrived on a free transfer from Bayern Munich, and are set to welcome back Mauro Icardi from injury, strengthening their attacking options ahead of a demanding campaign.
