Barcelona midfielder Gavi will be sidelined for up to five months following knee surgery, the club confirmed on Tuesday.

“Gavi has undergone an arthroscopy to repair a medial meniscus injury, which was sutured to preserve the meniscus. His recovery is expected to take around four to five months,” Barcelona said in a statement.

The 21-year-old Spain international had previously torn the cruciate ligament in the same knee in 2023.

Gavi has been out of action since August, with the club initially attempting conservative treatment before opting for surgery.

Barcelona face Real Oviedo in La Liga on Thursday, followed by Real Sociedad on Sunday, and Paris Saint-Germain next week in the Champions League.

He is not expected to return until early 2026, a World Cup year in which Spain are tipped among the favourites.
