The death toll in Gaza has climbed to nearly 48,300 as Palestinian medics and rescue teams recovered six more bodies from the rubble in the past 24 hours, the Health Ministry reported on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
Since Israel’s military assault began in October 2023, at least 48,271 people have been killed, with many more still unaccounted for beneath the ruins.
According to the ministry, five additional wounded individuals were admitted to hospitals, raising the total number of those injured in the conflict to 111,693.
The statement also warned that numerous victims remain trapped under debris and on the roads, with rescuers unable to reach them due to the extent of the devastation.
Although a ceasefire agreement has technically been in place since January 19, halting Israel’s military operations in the enclave, reports indicate that Israel has repeatedly violated the truce.
The war has left Gaza in ruins, with large-scale destruction to infrastructure and homes.
Israel’s actions in Gaza have also led to legal consequences on the international stage.
In November 2024, the International Criminal Court (ICC) issued arrest warrants for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defence Minister Yoav Gallant, accusing them of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Additionally, Israel is currently facing a genocide case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) over its military campaign in Gaza.
