Namibian entrepreneur Monica Geincos said the election of U.S. President Donald Trump is “the best news” for Africa’s development.
Speaking at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Geincos argued that Trump’s policies, particularly his reduction in foreign aid, have inadvertently forced the continent to rethink its approach to development.
Geincos said Trump has created a “black swan moment” that has exposed Africa’s over-reliance on external funding.
She noted that his policies have accelerated the decline in Official Development Assistance (ODA), which has been falling globally, forcing African nations to focus on domestic solutions.

According to Geincos, this shift has forced African countries to address internal issues such as wasteful spending, corruption, and skills gaps.
She also highlighted the need for greater domestic resource mobilisation, which she believes will help the continent build systems that “actually make sense” and are tailored to its own interests.
