Ghana President Appoints Johnson Asiamah as Central Bank Governor

Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama has appointed Johnson Asiamah as the country’s next central bank governor, pending approval from the Council of State. Asiamah, who has over 23 years of experience at the Bank of Ghana, is expected to assume office following the retirement of the current governor, Ernest Addison, in March.

Asiamah’s tenure at the Bank of Ghana includes a significant period from 2016 to 2017, during which he served as the second deputy governor.

The presidency praised Asiamah for his commitment to implementing sound monetary and exchange rate policies, ensuring financial stability, and promoting economic growth in the country.

With Ghana’s economy facing challenges, particularly in the cocoa and gold sectors, President Mahama has vowed to tackle public discontent by addressing the economy’s struggles. Despite the ongoing economic challenges, the president’s office remains optimistic about Asiamah’s leadership in stabilising the country’s financial systems.
