Governor Mai Buni Wins Re-Election Bid in Nigeria’s Yobe State

The incumbent Governor of Yobe State, Mai Mala Buni, has been named the winner of the state’s 2023 governorship election by Nigeria’s Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Prof Umar Pate, the State Returning Officer, declared the results at the INEC headquarters in Damaturu, the capital of Yobe State.

Prof Pate announced the results, saying Buni of the All Progressives Congress (APC) received 317,113 votes, defeating his nearest rival, Sheriff Abdullahi of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who received 104,259 votes.

The previous APC caretaker chairman, is returning as the party’s governor of the North-East state for the second time.
