Atletico Madrid delivered a dominant 5-0 victory at bottom side Real Valladolid on Saturday, climbing provisionally into second place in La Liga. Antoine Griezmann scored one of the goals of the season as Diego Simeone’s men extended their winning streak to seven games across all competitions.
Clement Lenglet opened the scoring in the 25th minute, followed by Julian Alvarez’s clinical finish. Rodrigo de Paul added a third before half-time, and Griezmann’s sensational turn and finish after the break made it 4-0. Alexander Sorloth completed the rout with a stoppage-time goal.
Atletico Madrid now trail leaders Barcelona by just two points after Barcelona’s shock 2-1 home defeat to Las Palmas. The victory also put Atletico two points ahead of third-placed Real Madrid, who host Getafe on Sunday.
