Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has admitted he was “embarrassed and ashamed” of his conduct after confronting a cameraman in the aftermath of the club’s costly 2-1 defeat at Newcastle on Saturday.
The City manager reacted angrily when a camera was pushed close to him following the final whistle, at a moment when he was speaking to Newcastle’s Bruno Guimarães and the match officials.
Guardiola had been incensed by the decision to allow Newcastle’s decisive 70th-minute goal, believing that goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma had been fouled in the build-up.
Speaking on Monday ahead of City’s Champions League fixture against Bayer Leverkusen, he said he had already apologised for his outburst.
“When I watch it back, I feel embarrassed and ashamed,” he said. “It’s not something I like. I apologised to the cameraman immediately. I am who I am. Even after 1,000 games, I’m not perfect. I made a big mistake. My instinct was to defend my team and my club.”

Saturday’s defeat, City’s fourth in the Premier League this season, left the champions third in the table and seven points adrift of leaders Arsenal.
Guardiola insisted, however, that the loss was “immediately forgotten” as the focus shifted to Europe.
City remain in a strong position in the 36-team Champions League league phase, sitting fourth after a promising start.
The manager confirmed that midfielders Rodri and Mateo Kovačić will be unavailable for Tuesday’s match.
He added that although there is no fixed timeline for Rodri’s return, the Spaniard is not expected to be out for long.
“We’ll give it a little more time to make sure he’s fully ready,” Guardiola said.
