Troops from the seventh Guards Battalion of the Guards Brigade, alongside members of the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes, have rescued 19 kidnapped victims in the Bwari Area Council, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
The operation, launched following credible intelligence, targeted terrorists responsible for a recent kidnapping in the Byazhin area of Bwari.
The coordinated rescue mission unfolded in Gidan Dogo, where troops made contact with the terrorists. This led to a firefight, during which one of the criminals was neutralised. Several others managed to escape with suspected gunshot wounds. The troops’ persistence in the area led to the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and a locally fabricated firearm, further dismantling the criminals’ operations.
Brigadier General Adebisi Olusegun Onasanya, the Commander of the Guards Brigade, commended the troops and their collaborating security agencies for their exceptional professionalism and bravery during the operation.

“The Guards Brigade remains resolute in its mission to safeguard residents of the FCT, ensuring the security of Abuja, the nation’s seat of power,” he said.
All 19 victims have been successfully rescued and evacuated to safety, where they are receiving care. The operation is part of the ongoing efforts under the MORE Agenda, as the Guards Brigade continues to work closely with other security agencies to curb terrorism, kidnapping, and criminal activities in the region.
The troops have returned to their Forward Operating Base in Bwari but will maintain a strong presence to prevent further threats to the community.
